पाकिस्तान तहरीक--इंसाफ (पीटीआई) के अध्यक्ष इमरान खान की गिरफ्तारी के कारण लगभग चार दिनों तक चले राजनीतिक उथल-पुथल के बाद सेना ने शुक्रवार को देश में मार्शल लॉ लगाए जाने की खबरों का खंडन किया, जिसमें सेना के प्रतिष्ठानों को भी निशाना बनाया गया था।

इंटर-सर्विसेज पब्लिक रिलेशंस (आईएसपीआर) के महानिदेशक मेजर जनरल अहमद शरीफ चौधरी ने Media से  बताया कि मार्शल लॉ लगाने का सवाल ही नहीं उठता। मैं बहुत स्पष्ट रूप से कहना चाहता हूं कि जनरल असीम मुनीर और सेना का नेतृत्व पूरे दिल से लोकतंत्र का समर्थन करता है और आगे भी करता रहेगा।

मेजर जनरल चौधरी ने कहा, "आंतरिक बदमाशों और बाहरी दुश्मनों के सभी प्रयासों के बावजूद सेना प्रमुख जनरल असीम मुनीर के नेतृत्व में एकजुट है।"

सेना के भीतर विभाजन पैदा करने के सपने सपने ही रहेंगे। सेना के प्रवक्ता ने कहा, तो किसी ने इस्तीफा दिया है और ही किसी आदेश की अवहेलना की है।

यह बयान तब आया जब खान ने सेना की आलोचना की और उनके समर्थकों ने सैन्य ठिकानों पर हमला करके दांव बढ़ा दिया - लाहौर में कोर कमांडर के आवास पर हमला किया और रावलपिंडी में सेना के मुख्यालय के प्रवेश द्वार पर हमला किया।

आईएसपीआर ने एक ओर सशस्त्र बलों के खिलाफ अपने कार्यकर्ताओं को भड़काने के लिए पीटीआई नेताओं को "पाखंडीकहाऔर दूसरी ओर - उनकी आलोचना को कम करने के लिए सेना की प्रशंसा की।
